Hungarian Chicken Paprikash with Dumplings
Ingredients
For the Chicken Paprikash:
- 2–3 tbsp vegetable oil or lard
- 1 whole chicken (cut into pieces) or 6–8 bone-in thighs/drumsticks
- 2 large onions, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp sweet Hungarian paprika
- 1 bell pepper, sliced (optional but traditional)
- 1 tomato, chopped (or ½ cup canned tomatoes)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 ½ cups chicken broth
- 1 cup sour cream
- 2 tbsp flour (for thickening)
- Salt & pepper, to taste
For the Dumplings (Nokedli):
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup water (or as needed)
- ½ tsp salt
